l have a 1999 Subaru outback Legacy. .l am replacing the engine from a manual engine to an automatic engine and keeping the transmission manual. This is the 2.5l non-turbo engine. Is there something that l can buy to convert it( if l have to) also what is the difference in the two engines? Websites would help as well as any help. Has anyone ever done this and if there is any helpful information on this l would greatly appreciate it.

There is no difference in these two engines. Depending on how old your clutch is, replace that whole system. And any seals that may need to replaced on the replacement engine while it is out of your car. Timing belt, water pump, etc.
