For the same reason the Mustang and Camaro were always compaired. Its a very similar vehicle from 2 different manufactuers. Both cars are supposed to do basicly the same thing, its just a matter of who does it better.

They are direct competition, perfect rivals. They have similar engines, chassis, and they were built for the same purpose. Both cars have fanatical followers.

Actually the Evo has been in rally for quite a long time. They started using the Lancer Evolution II. Quite a boxy looking car. They were not as big as the Impreza's, but that was mostly due to Mitsubishi not participating in a Manufactures sponsor program.

they are compared because they have been racing against each other for years,

as one manufacture gets faster, the other tries to keep up,

the WRX and EVO are very close to each other as far as performance, cost, and size, and use.
