l heard you can change a fuse...Is that true. If not can you change a subaru to 2WD if you do not need the 4WD. Does this only work on a specific subaru? Which one?

All Wheel Drive is all the time. What they're talking about with pulling the fuse would disconnect the computer that controls the power distribution. However, at that point it is going to default to 80%-20% (front-rear). There is no way to completely disable the AWD without completely revamping the drive train.

The fuse connector is designed for use with a space-saver spare tire, where the unequal tire size might otherwise cause harm or wear on the AWD system. When used with four equal-sized tires over a long time, it would provide no benefit. AWD capability would be lost, it may wear the AWD system and--because the rear driveline is being turned by the wheels instead of the engine--it may actually hurt fuel economy. The only way to get FWD fuel economy would be to physically remove the rear driveline. which kind of defeats the purpose of having an AWD vehicle in the first place!

Besides, Subaru is AWD system does not do that much harm anyway--back when they still had FWD vehicles, the difference in fuel economy & performance between FWD & AWD was about 10%.

You can make them RWD relatively easily.

Subaru is make crappy drag cars because of AWD, so quite a few people have made theIR STIs RWD instead. Its been a couple years since Ive seen the info on it, but from what l remember its not too hard, just time consuming (which means expensive unless you can do it yourself and have another car to drive) enough that its really not worth it unless you need RWD for some reason.

if you have a manual transmission subaru, its AWD all the time unless you disconnect the drive shaft or remove the front axles

if you have an automatic transmission subaru you could pull a fuse and go to FWD. l know this works for sure on older Subaru Legacy. l do not have experience with newer automatic transmission Subarus
