Are Subaru's Reliable cars (like Toyota or Honda or Nissan)

In my opinion they are not as good at the top two. (Toyota and Honda). Subaru is about equal to a Ford, where Toyota and Honda are like a Lincoln.

They look good, but after about 50K, they rattle and start to have problems. l know cause my daughter has one. l wanted here to get a Honda, but she saved $3,000 and bought a Subaru and now, 50K miles later, she is looking for a new car.

l would say they are alright. im not really a subaru fan. nothin will ever compare to a honda tho.

Depends on ur definition of reliability. If reliability means it will have longer life like toyota or honda, then probably not.
If reliability means it will run smooth upto certain milage(like 100000 or more0, then probably yes.
Note that subaru advertise for 4 whell drive which will cost u gas. l would rather suggest getting a car with real time all wheel drive. In that case it will be only activated when u need them.
l do not think Nissan has good transmission.

yes, very. the body will wear out before the motor.

l grew up in the middle of nowhere, and out mailman drove the same Subaru for 15 years, never had any problems with it. It snowed in winters, and the county salted the road, too.

No, my husband works at a Subaru dealership and he says he just can not understand why they are such a popular car. They have to come in constantly to be fixed. They are always having problems.

Yes they are and they can run a long time. l had a Subaru Legacy for 6 years, and besides regular mainteance, l never had a problem with it. It had over 100K miles on it. The all wheel drive is a nice feature if you live where there is a lot of bad weather.

Subarus arent as reliable as a honda or a toyota about equal with a nissan. l had one for 5 years. l got with about 60,000 miles on it and when l sold it had 120,000. While it did 'drive' it constantly had electric problems, the engine would start smoking after going 60 mph and it leaked when it rained. It was fun to drive for the first 10,000 miles that l owned it but after that it just cost alot to maintain.

Surprised how many people say they had bad experience with them. l have 2 now & they r very reliable & well made. l think as well made as either the Toyota or Honda. Subaru however has a unique motor. Its a horozontaly opposed 4 cylinder, like the old VW except watercooled. l imagine the VW engine was its inspiration. l am not sure what the Tribecka uses, except that its a 6 cylinder. The main thing about Subaru is is they r all full time 4WD or AWD. l live in MA & would not be able to get up my steep driveway in the winter without it. They have pretty much perfected their AWD. Saab even is using it in some of their cars. Subaru engines used to have oil leaks & a timing belt problem. But they fixed both problems in the late 90s. If u get one, get the Legacy or Legacy Outback. Both the Forester & Loyale r less exspensive Subarus. l only buy Legacys & l prefer the Legacy wagon. If u do not need 4WD. You might as well get a Honda or Toyota. By the way there is no difference between 4WD & AWD. If u think so, count all the wheels on the car, 4 right? AWD is just a slick term made up by a devious car salesman to make people think its different. The term 4WD conjures up in most people is minds thoughts of rough riding trucks & jeeps. Get a good Subaru, maintain it, u wo not have any trouble. Both of mine have near 150K & l expect 200K at least out of them. The milage lost because of the AWD is negligible & well worth it if it snows where u are.

l have owned all four brands at one time or another. Honda is r great Toyota is r great Nissan is r alright but Subaru is r fantastic. Toyota bought 10% of them knowing how good the quality is & how superior their AWD system is.. The r well engineered the best at dependability, reliability & safety. Subaru suffers from poor marketing, that is why u do not see many on the roads.
In answer to ur question yes Subaru is r as reliable as Honda & Toyota, Nissan is not as good. Stay away from Mazda, they r part of Ford were quality is job none.
If u maintain ur vehicle it will last a while, but if u maintain a Subaru, Honda or Toyota it will keep on going, l currently drive a '93 Subaru Legacy & my friends drive Subaru is too. Ask anyone who owns one what they think.

FYI
All Wheel Drive means all wheels r turning at all times. Four wheel drive is when u engage the car to use all four wheels. Otherwise it is only 2WD & there r certain restrictions with 4WD as opposed to AWD. 4WD has more moving parts
