Please only answer if you have something helpful to contribute. We are looking for something that will last 5 to7 years or about 50,000 miles. Both have been well cared for and run well. Volvo has 80k, Subaru 65k. We are looking for people who have had experience with reliability, safety and longevity. Thanks for any help!

I've heard the new volovos arent all that reliable, not like they used to be. Subarus r great cars, but my dad owned 3 outbacks, one a ( l think) 92 one a 94 & now a 2003. The 92 & 94 both didnt last very long (engine failure on one & the other had engine failure & suspension problems). 2003 has given him no problems thus far.

Go to carsurvey.org & read reviews for both cars & see which ones have been the least problematic. If it were me l would go with the subaru, just because l trust the japanese more than l do ford.

It all depends on what u require as far as space is concerned. You r comparing a small hatchback to a wagon. Both r good the Volvo is pre-ford so it is still safe & reliable. Make sure the electrical-electronics r in good shape Both r safe reliable & dependable. If they both have been maintained, then both should be good value. Take it to a mechanic who knows his suff & u can trust to check them both out. The Impreza has AWD & should get better fuel economy(not by much) than the V70. The V70 is rear wheel drive & will have more cargo & people space than the Subaru. Buy them both, they both have merit. And because of the age of the cars after market parts r available at better prices. l have seen both Volvo is & Subaru with high mileages when maintained. Personally l would go with the Impreza.
