Patrick, the Forester is the safest small SUV you can buy. We get about 30 mpg with cruise on. Easy to enter and exit the vehicle as it sits at good height. Cons? The USA made Outback has a nicer interior design and material quality for about the same price.

The '06 XT has a turbo engine. l believe it has 227 hp. If the HP is not a factor u may want to try the x or xs model, if they r still available. The handling & safety in comparison is better than other SUV is in its class. The AWD system is fantastic, u will love it in the snow & in Connecticut winters u will need it. Keep it on the regular maintenance schedule & it will last a long time, plus the resale value is pretty good. The only problem l encountered was, the alternator fried on one, that was a fluke for a new car.
The Forester sits higher than the Outback. The room & comfort level is alright, but the Subaru Outback is a little roomier & more comfortable. The price sounds good, is it brand new? Demo?

Great car. l had one that traded for an Outback & now my wife wants the Forester back. In terms of the price if u r not sure call 3-4 other dealers & get price quotes from them just keep the dealer honest they all buy them for the same price.

Former Subaru of New England Sales Manager

Dr Sam u r not offending me l prefer the Outback l thought it was quieter & more comfortable but my wife thinks the Forester is more comfortable. l guess to each is their own.

For an opposing point of view (Sorry, Colin).

l went to the dealer fully expecting to buy a Forester, but drove away in an Outback. It carries just as much junk and it is a much nicer car.

At least drive one.
