Every time l take my car, they always find things to be done to charge me extra. One time up to $1,000. The car has a little over 30,000 mls. Can l just take it to Good year tire?

honey u can take ur car anywhere to get the oil change but where ever u take it, ur going to get suckered into something more then just the oil change. anywhere u go being a female they are going to take advantage of that..they think we dont know anything...but anytime u feel ur being held for a sucker take ur car for a second opinion, 9 times out of 10 there is nothing wrong!

An oil change is an oil change go where you like, but look in your owners manual for what needs to be maintained when. The deal will charge extremely high prices to do the same thing you could do at Walmart or Goodyear.

Wow! I've not had that experience with the Saturn dealership here. l will tell you this - l take my Saturn to the dealership, because they keep a file of all the maintenance that has been done on the car. That is what sold me on it when l bought it, so l figured why ruin a good thing. However, to answer your question - No, it is not necessary. You can get it done anywhere RELIABLE that is.

l own a repair shop, and no its not really necessary to do this ,a small repair shop,or an oil change shop, can do the same thing and it wont hurt a thing you might even save a few bucks in the process also..good luck l hope this help,s.

No. Take it to a good, reputable shop, & just keep track of all maintenance in ur warranty booklet or other booklet if the warranty has expired. Double-check to make sure u get warranty work done at the Subaru dealer if it is specified that way. One thing u can do is to take the car to ur favorite mechanic two or three times a year, & get him to assess any work that needs to be done other than routine maintenance, before u take into the dealer. Pay him a small fee for this - agree on it beforehand. Car dealers' repair shops r notorious for finding things that need to be done - but r not really necessary. ( l had an '88 Subaru wagon & loved it! They're good cars.)

Yes, u can take ur car anywhere u like for an oil change. You do not have to take u car to the dealership. The dealership will keep finding more problems & over charging u because they did it to u once so now they know they can. Believe me the dealerships r the most expensive alternative & all the new things they find wrong with ur car once they get it in the shop is just a way to get more money out of you. You do not have to agree to let them fix anything other than what u brought the car in for.

$1000? l will do it for $700 if u bring it here.
You r getting raked over the coals. Any oil change place can do this for u if u r uncomfortable with doing it yourself.
Save yourself some big money by learning to do this yourself. I'd always get it done ($15-20 each time) & saw that most of these places had 17 year old kids working there. How hard could it be, right?
It was as easy as making toast & l am embarrassed to say l paid someone else to do it for all that time. You will need to spend $10 on equipment (an oil drain pan & an oil filter wrench) that u will keep.
You also need to buy oil & oil filters for each oil change. Oil is cheap. My truck only takes 4 quarts of oil, so a case of it will last for 3 oil changes & the filters r $5 each.
Neither ur dealer, nor the Jiffy Lube guy have any special way that they change the oil that u could not do yourself in ur driveway in about 15 minutes.
If ur dealer knows that u know how to change ur own oil, they're less likely to charge u for blinker fluid when u need real work done - maybe they will throw it in for free.

No, l have over 220,000 miles on my Subaru and have never had the oil changed. Just keep it full and change the oil filter before it rusts off.
wondering if everybody reads down to the bottom Just kidding guys, gesh

l will say these people are ripping you off, you can take your car anywhere you want, all you have to do is get a receipt of everything you do to your car, and remember to keep them in a safe place just in case of something happening to the car engine. when you take it to the dealer, they will ask you to show them receipt of every oil change done to the car every 3000 miles since the day you quit taking it to the dealer. but after that, you are really getting ripped off.

Oil change: a simple job, you should be able to do it yourself or use the local mechanic.
Avoid the brand workshops once the warranty has run out.

No, if it was just & oil change u can take it any where u like, make sure they use a compatible filter & that the drain plug is okay. But because u have 30,000 miles on it. it is a big service that is due. In this case u should take it to the dealer or a garage that can service those items required. The reason this needs to be done is if u do not follow the proper maintenance as outlined in the manual, Subaru could void the warranty. Because it is an '03 with a 2.5 litre engine it is known for bad engine knock. If the engine knocks (sounds like a diesel) u may have piston slap which could eventually ruin the engine. You do not want to void the 5 year/60,000 mile warranty. You need it. I've seen lots of these.
30,000 mile service: LOF, check all fluids Check Brakes, belts, hoses Check plugs & wires change fuel/air filter reset ECM etc.
