ok. this is probably a weird thing to ask, but l drive an automatic transmission now and l wanna buy a new wrx sti because they're incredible. l have driven sticks before, but i'm not all that experienced with them. i'm afriad to look like an idiot at the dealership with a test drive. how do l handle that situation?

barrow a friends car and practice

tell the sales guy that you are unfamiliar with a stick, he will be ok with that and test drive for you if you wish.
i used to have the customers drive one of the used models to get used to the stick shift.
then let them drive the car they liked. go for it

l would find a way to practice, Subaru has a easy clutch to get used to, every car is different though, so even with practice you may have some difficulties

rent a stick shift car and get use to it first. must if not all new cars (not big truck) have snickro transmit ions so there is no grinding of grears.

Subaru dealers usually will not let you test drive one until they are convinved you are actually going to buy one. And they will not let you at all if you are not strong in manual trannys. My advice is to get some practice with a friends car or go test drive cheaper manuals to get some more practice

I've sold cars before - most sale people will be more than happy to show you because you will feel obigated to buy from them. So do not worry about it. Most will have you drive around the lot or they will drive you to a place they know its save for you to get behind the wheel. But please tell them you are not the best at it BEFORE you get on the road.

the sti is not the car for you. get a civic.
